U.S.-Backed Gaza Ceasefire Talks Advance Following Hamas's Partial Acceptance of Plan 🇺🇸 🇵🇸 🇮🇱
Hamas has accepted several elements of U.S. President Donald Trump’s 20-point ceasefire plan for Gaza.
The group indicated that certain aspects of the proposal require further negotiations through mediators.
President Trump responded by telling Israel to “immediately stop bombing Gaza” and noted Hamas was ready for "lasting peace".
Hamas agreed to release all remaining Israeli captives—both living and deceased—in exchange for Palestinian prisoners.
The group also agreed to transition the administration of Gaza to a Palestinian body of independents.
Hamas explicitly rejected the Trump-proposed international transitional body known as the "Board of Peace".
Following Trump’s instruction, the intense Israeli bombardment in the enclave appears to have relatively eased.
Despite the call for a halt, local reports confirmed that Israeli strikes continued to kill scores of Palestinians on Saturday.
Israel said it is preparing for the "immediate implementation" of the first stage of the U.S. plan.
Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu hopes to announce the release of all hostages from Gaza “in the coming days”.
Indirect talks between Israel and Hamas delegations are scheduled to continue in Egypt on Monday.
U.S. envoys are traveling to Egypt to finalize the technical details of the hostage release and ceasefire.
