Iran and Israel Exchange Strikes Amid Escalating Tensions 🇮🇷 🇮🇱 💥

  • On Thursday night, a report indicated that Iran had failed to comply with its nuclear obligations, marking the first time in almost 20 years.

  • Less than 24 hours later, Israel launched "Operation Rising Lion," striking numerous targets across Iran.

  • This operation involved an initial phase of drones overwhelming early warning systems, followed by hundreds of fighter aircraft conducting precision strikes on over 100 targets.

  • The Israeli strikes targeted nuclear sites, air defenses, and missile bases, leading to the deaths of scientists and members of Iran's paramilitary unit.

  • Hours after Israel's strikes, Iran retaliated by firing multiple waves of ballistic missiles towards Israel.

  • These Iranian missile strikes activated air raid sirens in Israeli cities such as Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.

  • Some Iranian missiles successfully penetrated Israel's Iron Dome defense system, resulting in at least four deaths and over 200 injuries in Israel.

  • On Saturday morning, explosions were reported in Tehran, with two projectiles hitting Mehrabad Airport.

  • Iran’s Supreme Leader accused Israel of initiating a war, while Israeli officials stated their strikes were "an act of national preservation".

  • Iran warned that any country aiding Israel in repelling Iranian attacks would have its regional bases and naval vessels targeted.

Mass Protests Coincide with Trump's Military Parade Across U.S. 🇺🇸 🪧

  • Mass protests, organized by a group called "No Kings," took place across the United States to counter a military parade hosted by President Donald Trump.

  • The demonstrations were driven by opposition to Trump's immigration policies, concerns about staffing cuts to public health agencies, and a desire to defend democracy.

  • President Trump's military parade in Washington D.C. was timed to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the US Army and featured thousands of soldiers, tanks, and military vehicles.

  • In Los Angeles, protests against deportation raids, which had been ongoing for days, led to confrontations with National Guard soldiers and the firing of tear gas.

  • Despite the large-scale protests, opinion polls indicated that Trump's immigration policies, including the deportation of immigrants in the US illegally, remained broadly popular with 54% public approval.

  • The military parade, estimated to cost between $25m and $45m, was criticized by some politicians as a costly vanity project, while many attendees saw it as an opportunity to honor the military.

  • Some "No Kings" demonstrations in Minnesota were cancelled by organizers after flyers for the event were found in the car of a man accused of fatally shooting a state politician and her husband.

  • Initial investigations show the plane reached a height of 650ft before rapidly descending and hitting the ground in Meghani Nagar, 2km from the airport.

  • The 227-tonne aircraft crashed into a hostel where medical students and their families lived, killing at least four student doctors, one doctor's heavily pregnant wife, and several laborers and vendors.

  • All but one of the 242 people on board were killed, contributing to a total death toll that rose to at least 279 by Saturday morning.

  • The flight data recorder, or black box, was recovered and is being analyzed by investigators to determine the cause of the crash, with a full assessment expected within three months.

  • The sole surviving passenger, Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, was recovering in an Ahmedabad hospital, with his survival widely described as a "miracle".
